But on a more serious note, this guy ^^ is guarding that pumpkin for a very good reason! Our peeps at OLIO pointed out a few hard hitting truths with their recent video about the nitty gritty facts behind halloween- all that pumpkin waste!.
We’re about to share it with you in just a second, but first we wanna chat about it.
The basic facts are that whilst we might think it’s just one individual pumpkin, a farmer has toiled for 5 long months to grow that big fella (that’s from the start of June till November!), and it’s taken a load of natural resources to get that gourd* to reach it’s optimum carving size. So whilst we were working on our tans (for us in the UK) or rugging up snug and warm (in Aus) those farmers were out toiling for us to have our pumpkins. YAY!
When we really break it down all that natural resource adds up to a lot of water, a lot of compost (or fertiliser), and a LOT of sunshine, and what for if we just decide to throw it away? 🙁 Booooo!

- Pumpkin Soup (of course)
- Pumpkin, Fennel & Taleggio Galette
- Pumpkin Pie
Enjoy it, smash it, roast it, puree’ it, steam it, fry it… do whatever, just don’t chuck it.
And now that we’ve seen the serious side of Halloween (promise not to forget) let’s leave it on a sillier note for all the festive times ahead.
